The Azores are situated in a high pressure area resulting in a slightly different climate to that of mainland Europe. The Azores islands have a subtropical climate with high humidity and often experience fluctuations in weather patterns. The Azores enjoy pleasant temperatures all year round with mild winters and warm summers.

The water temperatures tend to be favourable to beachgoers in the summer partly due to the warm Gulf Stream current originating in the Gulf of Mexico.

The average annual rainfall in the Azores increases from east to west and ranges from 700 to 1600 millimetres on average, reaching as high as 6,300 millimetres on Mount Pico, the highest peak of the Azores.
